PopulationTracker.io is a public reference site for world population statistics. It answers a simple set of questions people ask every day — how many people are in the world right now, how many live in a given country, whether that number is rising or falling, and where it is headed — with figures traceable to primary sources.

Everything on the site is built from published international statistics: the World Bank's open data (which compiles national statistical office and United Nations figures) and the United Nations World Population Prospects. The site adds no estimates of its own — the live counters simply extrapolate the most recent official figures forward using official birth, death and growth rates, and they are always labeled as estimates.

Coverage spans the world as a whole, seven regions, and 218 countries and territories, each with population history back to 1960, current demographic indicators and UN projections. Data is refreshed from the sources on an automated monthly schedule, so pages update shortly after the World Bank or UN publish revisions.

The site is an independent publication: it is not affiliated with or endorsed by the United Nations, the World Bank or any government, and it has no sponsors or investors. It is sustained by on-page advertising, which never influences the figures or the text.
